I’ve been wearing this mascara for the past 6 months or so, ever since I asked my makeup super-friend Liora for a recommendation while we were at Sephora. I’d gone through a string of samples without finding one I really loved, so she suggested this one and I’ve been hooked!
What I really like about the Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant mascara is that it’s not gimmicky. It doesn’t have a weird wand, it doesn’t claim anything special. The bottle says “Dramatic Impact & Graphic Precision” and I think that sums it up. It just makes my lashes long and dark and good looking. And it lasts fairly well. I can’t remember which mascara I was wearing before this, but it had a habit of flaking all over my face. This one stays put. The other day I wore it for a good 10 hours for a Ren Faire trip, I was sweating in the 85 degree heat, and it didn’t make a mess on my face.
The wand is a conical shape, which means it tends to wing the outer lashes a bit, which is my preferred look. After a few months of use the end can start to get a little goopy, but by the time that happens it’s time to buy a new one anyway.
This is not a cheap mascara, obviously, nothing by MUFE is. But Sephora usually has the travel size in their “Beauty to Go” section by the register, for only $12 (or you can order either size online). That’s what I buy because I don’t go through an entire bottle in the 3-6 month window between needing to replace it for eye safety reasons anyway. Although I like it so much that I have started just wearing it for normal days when I want to look a little nicer… Just do my brows, whisk on some mascara, put on a tinted lip balm and I’m ready to go!
