Laura Mercier is a brand that I don’t tend to look at, even though it’s right at the front of Sephora. Their products just don’t tend to catch my eye, as they lack the sort of insane colors that I like to use for stage makeup. However, a few months ago I received a sample of their Full Blown Volume mascara as part of a gift bag at Sephora, and I was really impressed with it. It’s easy to apply, doesn’t clump up, builds well, and holds up to a night of dancing. Unlike a lot of the mascara samples that I’ve tried over the last year or so, it didn’t give me insane lashes right off the bat (which makes a mascara hard to use for normal daily stuff), or make my lashes really curly (which I found could often interfere with applying falsies). It seems to be a good, general-purpose mascara.

I have to admit that I resisted purchasing it for a while, milking the sample-size tube long after I should have thrown it out. It is more expensive than the mascaras I’ve purchased in the past, but you know what? Even though it has to be thrown out every 6 months, I think mascara is something that is worth splurging on. If you find a formula that you really like, you want to stick with it. There are few things more annoying in doing your makeup than dealing with a mascara that clumps your lashes together, or has some weird brush that you keep poking yourself with, or which takes forever to dry so you always end up making a mess of your face when you blink.

A very simple brush.

Of course, now that I’ve spent more than I normally would on a tube of mascara, I’m going to have to work hard to justify it by wearing it all the time! I guess I’m just going to have to do my face more often, what a shame.
