Today is the first day of the 90 Day Dance Challenge issued by Andalee at Belly Dance at Any Size. Originally, I hesitated to join because I really wanted to maintain the sanctity of my Sunday rest day, but when she said it only had to be 5 minutes a day, I decided I could live with that. It’s really easy to put on a five minute song and dance on my off day, while still honoring the idea of giving my body a break and giving myself time to do non-dance-related things.
This challenge couldn’t come at a better time. Not only have I already been doing a pretty good job at dancing more lately, but I am wanting to ramp things up even more because Tribal Fest is right around the corner! If I get a performance slot, I want to feel good about the skills I’m bringing to the stage. If I don’t get a performance slot, well, I still have six workshops I need to get through and I want to feel confident that my body will be up to the task. Plus, while I have been good in general about doing more dance stuff, there are still a lot of days where I spend all day on dance-related admin (like fixing my website or setting up events and things for the troupe) and I never get around to practicing. This challenge will hopefully make sure that I really do dance every day.
I’m excited to see that so many other people have responded to the original post saying that they’re in, too, and I’ve also seen a few people post about it on Facebook today. A challenge like this goes so much better when you have a community of people really supporting you and keeping you accountable.
So far today, the only dancing I’ve done is a minute of goofy dancing around with my friend Liora after we did a workout and a good song came on. Obviously that doesn’t really count! But after dinner I am looking forward to practicing for my upcoming performances and maybe doing some drills.
By the way, if you’re doing the challenge to, use #90DayDance when discussing it on social media so others can find your posts more easily!
